By a citizen from abroad

If you are a citizen of another country and want to adopt a child from Russia, you must provide some documents for it (www.usynovite.ru):

1. Application request to adopt a child
2. Your biography
3. Documents required by the consulate of the Russian Federation in adopter’s country
4. Certificate from your employer stating your position and salary
5. Statement of your bank account
6. Documents confirming your residence ownership
7. Special certificate of no criminal record
8. Special medical assessment
9. Copy of your marriage certificate or your birth certificate (if you are not married) and other documents required under the Russian legislation and the legislation of adopter’s country.

As a rule, foreign citizens come to Russia twice: during their first visit they get acquainted with the child and submit the documents to the court; the second time they come to the court session. The decision of adoption is made by the court.
A child from Russia keeps his/her citizenship after adoption. If a child is adopted, the Russian Federation will control his/her living in this new family periodically for thirty seven months.
